Welcome to Dr. Simon Kaja's Research Pages
Research in Dr. Kaja's laboratory
The main research focus in Dr. Kaja's laboratory is on pathophysiological mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative, neurological and visual disorders.
The experimental techniques utilized in the lab include: -
* high-resolution fluorescent and confocal imaging
* ratiometric Ca2+ imaging
* patch-clamp electrophysiology
* sharp-microelectrode electrophysiology
* molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry
Current research projects include: -
* visual impairments during migraine
* cytoprotection in dry-eye disease
* development of novel methods for measuring glutamate release
* oxidative stress and neuroprotection
* synaptic transmission defects in migraine and cerebellar ataxia
* neuroprotection in stroke and Alzheimer's disease
